Description

Vitamin E TPGS (D-α-tocopherol polyethylene glycol 1000 succinate) is a water-soluble vitamin E derivative, which is formed by combining natural vitamin E (α-tocopherol) and polyethylene glycol (PEG) through a succinate bond. Its unique molecular structure gives it excellent amphiphilicity, which is compatible with fat-soluble substances and soluble in water, making it a highly efficient functional excipient and active ingredient in the fields of nutrition, health care and pharmaceutical preparations.

Core applications in the field of nutrition and health care

1. Enhancing the absorption of fat-soluble nutrients

As a natural emulsifier, vitamin E TPGS can significantly improve the bioavailability of fat-soluble nutrients (such as coenzyme Q10, carotenoids, fish oil, etc.). Its micelle-forming ability helps these ingredients to be stably dispersed in the intestine and promotes absorption in the small intestine, which is especially suitable for people with weak digestive function (such as the elderly or postoperative patients). Studies have shown that TPGS can increase the absorption rate of certain fat-soluble ingredients by 2-5 times.

2. Antioxidant and immune support

TPGS retains the strong antioxidant properties of vitamin E, can effectively remove free radicals, protect cell membranes from oxidative damage, and synergistically enhance immunity. Its water-soluble characteristics break through the traditional vitamin E absorption limitations, can directly reach the cellular aqueous environment, and achieve more efficient antioxidant defense, which is suitable for anti-aging, cardiovascular health and sports nutrition formulas.

3. Special dietary supplement carriers

TPGS is widely used in oral nutritional supplements (ONS) and medical foods to improve the delivery efficiency of fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K), while improving product stability and avoiding stratification or degradation.

Innovative value in the pharmaceutical field

1. Drug solubilization and synergism

As an FDA-approved pharmaceutical excipient (GRAS certification), TPGS can improve the solubility and bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs, such as antifungal drugs (itraconazole) and anti-tumor drugs (paclitaxel). Its micelle encapsulation technology can reduce drug dosage and reduce liver and kidney toxicity.

2. Targeted delivery and toxicity reduction

In anti-tumor nanoformulations, TPGS as a carrier material can prolong drug circulation time, enhance tumor tissue permeability, and reverse multidrug resistance by inhibiting the function of P-glycoprotein efflux pump. Studies have shown that TPGS-modified nanoparticles can improve the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs by more than 50%, while reducing side effects such as hair loss and nausea.

3. Development of new delivery systems

TPGS performs well in oral solid dispersions, self-microemulsification preparations and transdermal drug delivery systems, helping the development of sustained-release, enteric-coated or topical drug delivery products and expanding the possibility of innovative drugs.
